Planning for your Christmas craft ideas should begin as early as possible so that when the time comes you're ready to roll as smoothly and hassle-free as possible. As each year passes you'll gain more and more experience and do better the following year - here are some tips, ideas and information to get you started.
| Christmas Craft Ideas - Where To Sell Your Crafts |
Christmas Fairs and Markets
If
you do a few internet searches, for example:
Christmas
Markets
Christmas
Fairs
Christmas
Expos
and so on, you'll find
plenty
of options. The links above are for international search results, but a
local search will be better for your needs.
Keep an eye on your local newspapers, magazines and advertising brochures for local fairs and markets too, and for other opportunities that you can take advantage of - for example, if someone is setting up a lot to sell Christmas trees in your area, get in touch with the seller and ask if you can set up a table to sell your crafts (this would be especially effective if you make and sell decorations too).
Retailers
Contact
your local malls and find out about their Christmas promotions,
as they will usually have something set up in their center court or
elsewhere throughout the mall. Often the space is only made
available to the retailers who rent stores in the mall - in this case
you could contact one of the retailers and ask to supply your products
if they are putting a display together.
Ask at your local convenience stores if you may rent a small space to display your crafts. Point of sale space is obviously prime, but if you have small items and a small display unit and you make it worth the store's while, you may be able to get a few POS spots.
Apart from convenience stores, you could also ask at other places like florists, small owner-run gift stores, pharmacies, beauty salons, book stores, home decor stores, stationers, and so on.
Charities and Fundraising Events
Churches
and other organizations who rely on donations always hold fundraising
events over the holiday season. These will usually be
advertised locally, and they're usually well
patronized by the community.
Home Party Sales
If
you don't do home party sales yourself, perhaps you know of
someone who does, and who would be willing to sell your craft items on
your behalf. Craft home parties are ever more popular because customers
can shop in comfort,
without having to battle the crowds.
Door to Door
If
there are some kids in
your neighborhood who want to earn some extra money during the
holidays, offer them a commission if they sell your crafts to their
neighbors, friends parents and work colleagues.
Auctions
Both online and offline, auctions can be lucrative and fun! Once again, do a search and keep an eye on your local print media.
| Christmas Craft Ideas - Best Selling Crafts |
Here's that question again... "which crafts sell best?". I'm going to refer you to read over our best selling crafts page for the basics if you haven't already done so, and here are some extra Christmas craft ideas:
Gift Hampers/Baskets/Packages
Always popular, and you can choose from so many themes! Kids (different age ranges, and think of activity kits too), ladies (moms, singles, aunts, grans) and especially men! Men are generally quite difficult to buy for, so you could probably generate nice sales from a few well thought out gift packages for men.
Specials and Discounts
If you have one or two particular products that sell well all year round, drop the price by a few percent and escalate your sales for Christmas. Likewise, if you have a product or two that's not exceptionally popular, package it with one of your popular items and create a special, something along the lines of "your favorite xyz plus 50% off abc!"
Ornaments
Yes, ornaments are everywhere at this time of year, but it's the same old stuff year after year in store after store. Over the years we've managed to gather a collection of totally unique Christmas ornaments, many of them hand crafted - they are exquisite and we're the envy of many of our friends. It's easy to come up with unique ideas for ornaments, and they sell well. Other ideas can include Christmas hats, wreaths, stockings, and advent calendars.
